Look Fantastic subscription box

So from a few recent posts, you will have noticed I'm getting into subscription boxes quite a bit. I love every aspect of subscription boxes, the surprise as to what's inside, the chance to often try new brand and most importantly the surprise of parcels arriving on my door step unexpectedly. I've not tried too many subscription boxes other than the foodies Degusta Box and the Beauty themed Glossybox. So this time I picked up a Look Fantastic box instead. 

The range of products in the Look Fantastic box incorporated more of a lifestyle theme than just purely typical beauty products so there's much more of a range in the box. 

Forza, diet multivitamins

A supplement designed for dieters, to ensure your body still gets all the vitamins it needs. As I trialled the exante diet before I went on holiday, the product has come at a great time. It's nice to know that despite the diet my body was able to get all the nutrition it needed. 

CB12, mouthwash 

Not the most exciting of products, but always something handy to have. A mouthwash aimed specifically at targeting bad breath. A nice handbag or travel friendly size too. 

Balance me, hand and body wash
Not 100% keen on the smell, however a useful full sized product. 

Mini Bed Head, manipulator
A styling product, a cream like texture. This seems more suitable for short hair so not something I've tried yet. However I am a fan of the bed head range. 

Korres aloe & soapwort shampoo
I've heard brilliant things about Korres. The shampoo is again a great travel size. I've already picked up the beach blondes shampoo so my holidays (currently sat waiting to leave for the airport), however I can't wait to try this soon. 

Inka certified organic eye liner
Not the best of eye lines, I found this wasn't very pigmented and as such wasn't very easy to apply, however it's an eye-liner, it will no doubt end up in the bottom of one of my many handbags and still be useful.

Glossybox | Pop art edit

When I posted the Iconic Hollywood edition Glossybox I mentioned there was an offer running with Glossy Box UK for two boxes for £22.00. The second of the boxes that arrived was the Pop Art Edit. I don't think I could bring myself to ever throw the box away it's so pretty. I was however quickly over the box and found myself yanking the lid of, pulling the pretty bow apart and diving into the goodies in excitement. 

Flutter so susan mascara 
I can't say I rated this too much, although it's a mascara, I will use it. 

Ciate paint pot, nail varnish 13.5ml
It's bright, it's yellow, it's pop art. Ciate is a popular nail varnish brand and one which is usually well reviewed and known for quality. It took two coats to really make the colour pop, but I liked this. Yellow nails aren't really fitting for my skin tone but a nice product. I just need a tan now to pull it of. This did last a good few days before chipping too.

Nuxe crème fraiche masque 50ml 
A super product for dry skin and creating a glowy fresh face for summer. The product had a floral somewhat overpowering smell which made me feel the product was somewhat "cheap". My skin felt moisturised and supple after which was great but unfortunately the scent was of-putting, for me personally.     

Etrebelle - Liftlip peel 15ml
Essentially a lip scrub and a nice product to have in your beauty stash. Perfect for prepping lips before a bold lippy colour and fighting dry chapped lips. 

Rimmel BB cream, shade light, 8ml
Quite a light product which provides a good medium coverage, defiantly more than most BB creams. Despite the matt finish which I often overlook the product looked fresh and gave a natural looking fresh faced finish. 

Yves Rocher | Quelques Notes d'Amour | L'Eau de parfume 5ml
I actually really really like this it's a similar musky smell (not in a grandma way) to other scents such as Gucci Rush. I'm finding it really hard to find this online to find the prices. I'm not 100% sure if this has been fully released yet. Either way it smells divine and the sample will be a great addition to my handbag until I track down a full sized bottle.

The Fragrance Shop discovery club spring 2015

The fragrance shop discovery club is a brilliant way to sample new perfumes and also receive a discount on some of the newest fragrances. 

The fragrance shop discovery club works by sending out quarterly boxes (spring, summer, autumn winter) containing samples of the latest fragrances. The annual subscription costs £20.00 per year, a one of fee with no commitment. As each box works out at £5 this cost is easily redeemed as the box also contains 5, £5.00 off vouchers and 1 £10.00 off voucher to use towards the perfumes. 

Perfume samples have come a long way since the days of rubbing your wrist against a scented page of a magazine and in fact all the samples are now handy mini 1ml / 2ml bottles. Which is around enough for 5 - 10 sprays so you can really find out how well the scent works for you. Plus the mini bottles are also brilliant for handbags and travel. 

The spring box contain 6 female samples and one male (There is a male version too for the boys).

My favourite from the box this month is the Versace Eros Pour Femme, however at a RRP of £69.50 for 50ml, even with the £10.00 voucher the fragrance is still on the pricey side. However it does feel a perfume I would wear for best and since it's the same price as my current favourite fragrance Dior Addict EDP which is running low, the voucher will defiantly come in handy this month.

Glossybox | Iconic Hollywood edit

I'm not usually one for subscribing to beauty boxes, but I landed myself on the glossy box mailing list after I purchased the limited edition Harvey Nics box some time ago. I purchased that box purely because it contained a full sized product from my favourite hair brand show beauty. Anyhow I noticed an email with regards to their current special offer of two limited edition boxes for £22.00 and thought I'd treat myself.

Despite not subscribing permanently to any subscription boxes, I do still love the excitement of surprise parcels.  Plus at £11.00 a box it was highly likely I would get my money worth from something inside the box...if not just from the excitement of waiting to find out just what the box would contain alone. 

The box contains: 

Lord and Berry, lipstick pencil in kiss, full size product £10.00

A classic orange-red lipstick would be an essential for creating any iconic Hollywood look. Unfortunately the Lord and Berry lip pencil doesn't exactly seem to provide the luxury expected from Hollywood as the fact it smelt like an actual pencil, was well, of-putting.That aside the colour was nice and it did last on the lips. The colour doesn't exactly suit me but a colour fitting for the iconic Hollywood theme. 

Pop Beauty, Kajai eyeliner pen, full size £6.50

Eye liner, I would guess is something nearly every girl has in her make up bag. So from the point of glossybox a full sized eye liner is playing it pretty safe. The eye-liner is a soft pencil, ideal for smudging (with the little smudger on the end) into a smoky eye look. The eye liner doesn't seem to last long though and in fact the "smudger" on the end seems to wipe it clean of your eyes. 

Darphin, Exquisage beauty revealing cream (sample size), full size £65.00 50ml

It's always hard to review a moisturiser, there are very few which I think wow! Plus it's always a little unfair to post a review after a few weeks. For the full size price tag I want a product that makes my skin glow after one use. Ok so the price tag is in line with many good quality moisturisers, but if I'm honest although the product certainly felt luxurious I don't plan on spending that kind of money on moisturiser until I feel I need wrinkle cream... 

Color club, barley there nail polish, full size £4.10

A nice nude colour and again in keeping with the Hollywood classic theme. The nude colour isn't anything I own in my nail polish collection (there's so many!) so it will be a nice edition. 

Nougat london soothing bath pearls £6.00 for 35ml

Due to only having a shower I couldn't try these. I do also feel bath pearls, bath salts and all that jazz looks a little old fashioned and I know it's something I would never purchase. My box contained the scent cherry blossom, although I couldn't smell anything, not sure if it would react better in water.

Home made coffee body scrub with Pre Loved UK

This Saturday I was invited to a little blogger event with Pre-loved UK. Held at Ziferblat in Manchester. 

Ziferblat was quite a confusing concept to me, a place almost set out like a fancy tea room crossed with your own living room,kitchen and dining room. Where you can eat cake all day, make yourself tea in their kitchen, drink pop from the fridge, sit on the sofa and play board games and all you pay for is your time there, £3.00 an hour. Such a cool concept and one that was a little confusing to me. Although not as confusing as spending all day thinking the ice machine in the kitchen was a bread maker. All round I was amazed. 

Pre Loved UK, is a is market place (online and app coming soon), to sell your unwanted furniture, unlike auction sites there are no listing fee's so it's completely free (and more profitable) to give your goodies a 2nd home. I also found you can search by area. Handy if you wish to collect items instead of waiting for the postman. Since browsing the site I've noticed so many pieces perfect for a summer up-cycling projects. Decoupage chair anyone? 

In keeping with the up-cycling DIY theme, we tried our hand at some DIY beauty projects. The first was making out own coffee body scrubs. I always have problems with buying body scrubs as there usually not "scrubby" enough, what's that word...ermm...gritty. The ones that are, are usually fairly pricey too. It never really occurred me to make my own. The coffee body scrub was super easy to make and smells amazing. Plus it was scrubby very gritty, yet with nourishing coconut oil to also sooth the skin,  perfect for getting your legs ready for summer. 

Coffee Sugar Scrub

2 scoops of coffee

1 scoop of sugar

1 glug (or if in a solid state, one scoop) of coconut oil

Add the coffee and sugar into a bowl

pour in the coconut oil and stir

(If the coconut oil is in a solid state a warm spoon with help scoop it out, plus a creaming motion (like your making a cake) will help mix the ingredients together until the coconut oil melt. 

Next we transformed old keys into necklaces. A very simple idea to create a new piece of jewellery. all you need is nail polish to paint the keys and some ribbon. You could also pick up some chain from craft shops.  

Over all a delightful way to spend my afternoon, thank you to Pre-Loved UK for the invite.

Monthly Beauty Favourites

It's been a long long while since I did my last monthly beauty favourites with you, but y'know summer is coming, or at least it feels like it. So this monthly beauty favourites is aimed at the rather snazzy spring / summer weather we're starting to enjoy. 

Nanogen root boost hair thickening spray*: Full review in my previous post

Models own hyper gel polish in Lilac Sheen. A light girly lilac shade, perfect for spring. Quite a bold block colour finish with a glossy sheen. Despite owning many of the newer released Models Own polishes, the hyper gel range remains one of my favs, I'd also recommend the dark dusty blue shade cornflower gleem.  

Nouveau lashes and conditioning serum*. When the beer gardens call and mascara sweating of in the heat doesn't quite cut it for the perfect flutter, a set of falsies will. Since spring/ summer day time outings don't really call for a thick false lash look a natural pair is usually needed. The Nouveau lashes are ideal for more natural make up looks and the thin almost invisible lash strip makes them easy to apply and more comfortable to wear all day long.

The conditioning serum / primer is also something I've recently picked up. If your like me and have the bad habit of picking mascara from your eyes, which we all know will pull out lashes! Then a conditioning serum is my way of been nice to my lashes. Plus it also works as a mascara primer! Genius. 

Bourjois rouge edition aqua laque, shades: 07 fushia perche, 04 viens si tu roses, 02 rosé on the rocks. Saving the best till last. When the rouge edition lip stains first launched last year the hype around them was immense. For good reason too. They literally didn't come of your lips. Ever. So when Aqua laque launched I was pretty keen to try a few out. Not that I had finally bough all the previous edition and it now felt like a collection..not at all *rolls eyes*. 

Where the previous rouge edition products are all matt finishes the aqua laque's are all bright, glossy and still very bold colours on the lips. Shade 07 is a bright pinky red which has a real classic Hollywood feel to it. shade 04 is a browner red shade but makes a perfect day time red lip. The 02 is a nude pinky shade which is one of my favourites for day times. 

The only downside is the lip products do bleed from the lip, despite promising not to, so I'd recommend a lip liner. 

Despite not lasting as long as the  rouge edition once the glossy effect wears off the lips still stain with a subtle pop of colour.

Nanogen root boost hair thickening spray

So I've discussed with you guys on many occasions and you may have noticed previously, I love my hair products. Amongst trying to battle fine hair, finding the perfect product to boost my locks is always on my radar. So when Nanogen who previously introduced me to their thickening shampoo & conditioner (which is ah-mazing), introduced me to their newly launched root boost thickening spray (£9.95), I was pretty keen to give the product a try. 

For me many of the root boost sprays always come with the same problem, they make my hair sticky! When your after thicker fuller bouncier, Cheryl (what's her new surname?), just came shimmering out the salon hair, the last thing you want is feeling like your hair is been ripped out when you try and style it. Plus don't me started on those powdery volume dusting thinggys, which only cause a heap of product build up and well I just can't stand them. 

Luckily I was pleasantly surprised when the Nanogen thickening spray came with non of the above problems. I'm fact I rather liked it. 

After towel drying my hair and using a hair oil (I have quite a few I routinely use, but my favourite is Show Beauty hair oil), I applied a few sprays in-between the layers of my hair (no fancy sectioning just lifting sections of my hair). Then blow dried as normal. 

The product defiantly gave my hair a little extra volume and the product wasn't "noticeable" no sticky, greasy, extra product texture. Now it unfortunately didn't transform me into Chezza, but it defiantly added a little extra bounce. I'd say I personally liked this the most for not having that hair-spray feel. I'm sure most of you will of tried those thickening sprays which promise volume and feel like hair spray in disguise.

Bumble and Bumble invisible oil set review

A quick review of the Bumble and Bumble invisible oil set, containing the shampoo, conditioner and hair primer. I picked up the travel set from boots, before my trip to New York. Admittedly there was no need to add such a luxury product to my holiday "pre-boots shop", you all surly do the pre-holiday toiletries run, it's part the holiday right? but it felt the perfect opportunity to sample a few products from Bumble and Bumble at a smaller "travel sized" price £19.50. 

Although I am aware I could have got a full sized good quality shampoo and conditioner for that price. Tell a lie I fully wasn't aware at all until I just checked the price online, I really need to stop throwing stuff in the basket like I'm on beauty-market sweep or something. Honestly this is clearly why i often think my bank card has been cloned. That said there really also wasn't a need to throw in the strawberry scented denman hairbrush too, just because it was slightly smaller than normal hair brushes and looked a cute travel "essential". 

Anyways after than insight to my spending habbit, was the travel set worth the money? Plus we all want to know how it treats our (pampered) locks. So...

Shampoo: It smelt incredible and as it's sulphate free it's friendly on the scalp and indeed anyone unfortunate enough to get it in their eyes. Although thankfully my last memory of that was from L'oreal kids after a swimming lessons as a child. The Dolphin 8 badge was not worth my tears! The shampoo didn't foam very well and made it difficult to make me feel I'd given my hair a good wash. I do use a lot of products on my hair so i like my shampoos to lather well, as it's easier to feel I've washed out all the build up of product. However that said my hair did feel very clean, despite the lack of foam.  

Conditioner: Again incredible smell and defiantly a more luxury feeling product than the shampoo. The conditioner was rich and almost body butter-esk texture. This is defiantly what I look for in conditioner. Having thin yet damaged hair it left my hair feeling nourishes and smelling fantastic. 

Heat/UV protective primer: Well let's be honest, no idea how well this protects my hair from UV rays or heat, I don't exactly own a science lab, however as i regularly use these type of products anyway (usually thrown in my beauty-market sweeps) compared to most heat protectors, it smelt nicer. Plus it helped me comb my hair through easier after washing, so i would also say it works well to detangle hair. 

Overall shampoo, not exactly worth the price tag for me, conditioner, would buy again if i was feeling flush, primer, will enjoy using it and it will be great whilst the bottle lasts. Now since I've just booked a getaway to Corfu in May, I'm now on the look out for a great swimming shampoo...obviously I will never learn. Any suggestions?

Demeter Fragrance Library | review

Your eyes are not deceiving you. These really are perfumes in the scents, condensed milk, vanilla cake batter and my personal favourite Play-doh.

I picked these up recently in the states at a Duane reeds for $15 each, although the range of Demetre fragrances is available also in the UK. I shall first mention Duane Reeds are fascinating places and rather dangerous for midnight shopping...not in the sense someone might kill you, but a combination of all the US make up and lucky charms is a lethal combination for my purse strings. Quite obviously none of the below are well, practical buys but c'mon who wouldn't want to smell like vanilla cake batter? 

So I know what are you all thinking, are these fragrances wearable? smelling like play-doh is fine when your 5 years old and cake batter smells nice in the kitchen but would you really want to go to work or turn up for a date with a spritz of condensed milk on your neck. attractive? maybe not. 

Condensed milk The most wearable of the three and in fact actually a nice scent. Been a little unsure about what condensed milk actually smells like the smell was sweet and musky but not too heavy. I would defiantly say this is actually wearable and would make a cheap option for a day time fragrance. I'm sure unless you tell people the actual name of the scent, in which case you have a brilliant conversation starter. It's actually pleasant and no one would ever guess.   

Vanilla cake batter One of the more foodie scents in the range, with others including cotton candy and chocolate chip cookie, vanilla cake batter is a sweet fragrance and takes me back to the days of wearing Britney Spears fantasy perfume. My god you could smell that sickly fragrance a mile of. Luckily vanilla cake batter is a little lighter with notes of vanilla but still a sweet fragrance. The fragrance is far too sweet for my personal fragrance taste but again the scent is wearable. 

Play-doh The best till last. Yes this does actually smell like play-doh but not the extent you may think. If were all honest play-doh smell nothing more than salt and childhood memories and I'll be honest my favourite of the three. It has a vanilla note and unless your on the look out for the "play-doh" hint it's actually pretty nice. If any ones ever tried the furze perfume from lush, it's very similar. Defiantly vanilla meets childhood memories. I'm tempted to wear this to wear and see if anyone points out they can actually smell play-doh. In which case I'll act confused and say it's not me. 

I wasn't ever expecting any fragrance to be up there with my all time favourite Dior Addict, but for a cheap and cheerful and "fun" scent these would make a perfect quirky gift. I've been eyeing up the gin and tonic fragrance to add to the collection.

Paul Mitchell Event

Like many girls having your hair done is one of the simple pleasures in life. Yet like many I'm no good at doing my own hair myself. At a push I can manage some curls and an attempt at a basic up do. So when I was invited down to an event with Paul Mitchell I could hardly say no could I? Although I was panicking of my massive roots (I'm growing my hair out for a new style at the moment) at a luxury hair event, the stylists were amazing and I think they did a pretty good job at disguising them with the adorable bow up do.  

Upon arrival everyone was greeted and all us bloggers had a chance to catch up with one and other and have a mingle over some champagne. Everyone had the chance to preview all the new gift collections from Paul Mitchell, my favourite been the art of blonde gift set. There happened to be 3 blogger events in Leeds that night so everyone was coming an going in a rush but it gave the luxury hotel suit the real atmosphere of a hair salon and the stylists did such a good job at transforming everyone. It was such a nice experience having your done in a luxury hotel suit and I think we all had a taste of "If I ever won the lottery" moments.   

I was so happy with how cute my hair looked, I don't think it has ever looked any better. I couldn't believe how quick the stylist created this look. 

Unfortunately we had to leave pretty quickly, as it was on to the next event. On the way out we spotted some celebrity's leaving the hotel (Nick and Margaret from The Apprentice...say whaaattt) then made a rush to our next venue of the night. As you can see my hair stayed in place perfectly all evening. 

We were kindly gifted with some of the products from Paul Mitchell, so I will have the chance to re-create my own styles at home. Review of the products will be coming soon.

Organic Surge moisturiser and mask

I first came across Organic Surge when a little pot of the super intensive daily moisturiser* landed in a goodie bag from a blogger meet up. Despite owning draws full of make up and all kinds of skincare goodies, moisturiser is never something I've quite liked or enjoyed using. Yet the simple moisturise is something I'm sure most of us has as a beauty staple. For me it's been a battle of finding a product which combats my combination skin, doesn't break me out or makes me feel like I've worked a shift down the local chippy. I've been using the Organic Surge super intensive daily moisturiser for a few months now and I'm quite in love with it. So much so I've added the blissful daily moisturiser and first class mask to my ever growing beauty collection.

Organic Surge super intensive daily moisturiser 50ml* £10.95

I adore this product for my combination skin. As you might be able to tell by the worn looking jar, I've used this everyday for a few months now and dare I say enjoyed using a moisturiser for once. I'd say I'm about a quarter into the jar so far so I expect the product to last a while. The product is thick and creamy which at first I was a little scared about, for a daily moisturiser I was expecting something a little lighter but it sinks into the skin quickly and feels rather luxurious. There's a light fragrant scent of rose to the product which I'm not typically a fan of but it's nothing too overpowering and I've grown to quite like this. It leave my skin feeling soft and hydrated and is great for those with sensitive skin like myself. 

Organic Surge first class mask 50ml (currently sold out)

This product is defiantly sold out for a reason. The first thing I noticed was the product smells like lemon cheesecake! Amazeballs right. Don't be fooled it does not taste the same, yep that's right I had a little lick of my face. Just couldn't resist. I was expecting a gel based mask, not sure why but it is in fact a cream based face mask which dries more like a clay mask. I'm sat with this on as we speak, well as you read, and yes I am now pulling weird faces to feel the mask crack. Surely you all do this. The mask gives a deep clean to the skin for those of us prone to blemishes it restores rebalances the skin. Unlike other clay based masks it's also pretty easy to wash of the skin. 

Organic Surge blissful daily moisturiser 50ml £9.50

A little lighter than the super intensive moisturiser but still just as luxurious and hydrating. It's a better option for a daily moisturiser than the super intensive one as it's a little lighter so a better all year round product for when the weathers not as harsh on dry/combination skin. For now I'm still using the super intensive as I need that additional boost, however when the weather heats up (which will be never here in Yorkshire) this will most likely be my go to for a slightly lighter option.

Lush Christmas shower gel range 2014

Snow Fairy is back! Therefore It's officially ok for me to mention christmasy things...again! Plus round 2 of me talking about Lush. You may have noticed I like doing this by now. Since I'm one of the millions of poor gal's in UK who lives in a shower only household (fact may not be accurate) then for me Lush isn't about the bath bombs and bubble bars, it's finding those extra treats suitable for myself. 

Now I do still love a good bath, I had one a few weeks ago, although after burning my big toe on the hot tap, for now I'm going to stick with showers. Wasn't that the most awkward sentence ever....I had a bath a few weeks ago. Great line in a blog there. 

This year Lush have launched a few new additions to their Christmas "non bath" so i'm going to give you a little insight. 

New Hot Toddy Shower Gel 100g £3.95

A new addition this year is the Hot Toddy Shower Gel. Inspired by the drink it's self and designed to whisk you away to sitting in front of a log fire with a good book is a welcomed addition to the range this year. With its gold glimmer and scent of ginger, cinnamon and zesty orange it's defiantly a warming scent perfect for warming up the cold evenings. 

Rose Jam Shower Gel 100g £4.75

Defiantly a favourite of mine last year and this still reminds me of Turkish delight. With a rose scent and conditioning argan oil it's I find this perfect for those pre bedtime showers. 

Snow Fairy Shower Gel 100g £3.75

I don't think much needs to be said on this product. Candy scented, sweet and a great morning product. I'd go as far as saying knowing I can have a snow fairy shower gets me out of bed that little bit earlier. 

New So White Shower Gel 100g £4.50

A new product! Eeek. This is the new apple infused shower gel, inspired by the same scent as the So White bath bomb and the poison apple of the pantomime classic snow white. With a little glitter in the product adding a little sparkle and a crisp apple scent is something im sure will appeal to a lot of people, however I would say this is my least favourite of the range, for me the scent doesn't quite seem "lush" enough. 

New First Snow Dusting Powder 30g £4.75

I love the lush dusting powders, they in a sense make talcum power cool again. The shimmer in the first snow product isn't really practical but I find this great for adding a shimmer to my skin before a night out.
